This February 19th, 2023 the city of Greenbelt Community Center located at 15 Crescent Rd will be hosting a poetry reading. They will be featuring Spoken word artists: Chris Haley, reading from his newly published book of poems, which will be available for sale; Sainey Cessay, 2021 Youth Poet Laureate, PG County; Francis Stedman, Poet St. Lucia W.I. If you stick around this day you will be able to witness Mestre Santemu who will demonstrate a display of Capoeria Angola, an African established martial art form, used to seecure maroon societies in Brazil during enslavement. Mestre is one of the only African American (Afro-USA) to be recognized as a mestre of Capoeira Angola.
