A multilingual resource for families in eight languages:
Hawaii educators collaborated with the Council of State Science Supervisors to translate resources for families teaching science subjects at home during COVID-19 school closures into eight languages.
In an immediate response to COVID-19 school closures, the Council of State Science Supervisors (CSSS) collaborated to create resources for families to engage in safe, meaningful science learning at home. In an effort to reach as many families as possible, CSSS reached out to our network, including our own members, to translate the family, student, and learning menu documents. We hoped to connect with specific communities in our states and districts, which resulted in a diversity of language translations, including the following: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Spanish, Tagalog, Tongan, and Chuukese (formerly known as Trukese, a language native to some islands in Micronesia, and spoken in communities in Hawaii and elsewhere in the United States). The developers of the materials extend the deepest gratitude to the individuals who made voluntary contributions to translating these documents, including community members in Hawai‘i, Michigan, and Washington, D.C.
