Rockville Science Café
What is Klingon
With Marc Orkrand, Ph.D.
Tuesday, July 20, 2021
7 to 8 PM (EDT)
Welcome Marc Okrand back to the Rockville Science Café. Last month Marc joined us to talk about the creation of Closed Captioning. This month Mark will discuss creating the Klingon language, which began as a few lines of dialogue in the first Star Trek movie, has grown to be what Guinness World Records once dubbed the world’s “largest fictional language.” This session will look at how and why the language was created, how filmmaking influenced (and altered) its grammar and vocabulary, and how the language is faring in the “real world.”
