What is your language background?
My first language is Spanish. I learned English when I moved to the United States [from El Salvador].What are your future language plans?
I would like to study business in college, but, if another opportunity comes up, I am open to pursuing it.Why should high school students learn foreign languages?
Students should learn foreign languages because it helps them communicate with more people, understand different cultures, and prepare for future opportunities in college and life. [Kimberly was the only student in her high school from El Salvador although others spoke Spanish as a first language, e.g., students from Guatemala]What do you like most and least about learning foreign languages (if anything)?
I like most being able to communicate with people from different backgrounds. I like least that grammar can sometimes be difficult and confusing, but I am aware that it is important part of learning a language. What advice would you give someone who does not want to study a foreign language or thinks it is too difficult to learn?
I would tell them not to give up. Learning a language takes time and practice. Making
mistakes is part of the process, and every step brings improvement.
